About
The Standard Third Person Description:
David Porter is a self-taught artist, illustrator and physicist who doesn't believe that "self-taught" means "flat-contrast painting of your puppy and five children." Dave "has views" about this sort of thing. David dropped out of college after 7 years, six credits short of four degrees. None of them were art. (Just for the detail oriented they were: Global Security, Hydrogeology, Law Studies and English Writing). David dropped out primarily to deal with the obligatory debilitating illnesses that all artists are issued at the start of their careers. In the past, Dave has self-litigated court cases, taught activist tactics and political theory to teenagers, rescued stray kittens, worked on-air in radio and flown sailplanes.

Dave reads constantly any books you leave lying about and is always learning something. Which can be horribly irritating if you live with him. Which you don't. But if you did - it would be. All kidding aside, he is a friendly artist who enjoys helping people and volunteering in the community. He has a soft spot for the underdog and now spends a great deal of time advocating for persons with PTSD.

Dave lives with his partner and fellow artist Kris Anderson in Madison Wisconsin.

Artist Statement:
I try to capture emotions in my work. The fine art painting is focused on my personal emotion and my illustration work is created to convey a specific message. Overall, I approach both illustration and fine art with very similar methods although the illustration is done mostly on digital equipment. I accept commissions and will happily respond to questions or comments made through our comment form above. Be sure to check out my blog for more news and info.
